A fine day, which was great after the very wet night in Dingle. Managed to visit 3 pubs in Dingle, all with music - very clever musicians over this way, to be sure! Heading north, we stopped in Tralee for an hour to have a look around and grab some breakfast.
Arrived in Tuam and followed the signs to the Information Centre....walked round and round the block - in the end Wendy chatted to a chap who told her the centre had closed 2 years ago - (its a recession, don't you know)....hard case, signs still in place. Thankfully, he pointed us in the direction of a Hotel for the evening, not game enough to recommend any backpackers or hostels and he also gave instructions on where to have a drink - in the back of a sweet shop!?
Off we went and found the hotel, checked in and then back to town in search of the bar behind the sweet shop.....OMG, what a time we had. Singing beautiful Irish ballards, jokes and recitals from our new mate Tony and all his buddies. They loved to talk about NZ rugby, TT Racing and NZ lamb not to mention being infatuated with Ross's size and wanting us to perform the haka...at one stage, early on, Tony took off his shirt!? As they said, he had a fine chest until it sunk! It was an hilarious couple of hours combined with the sadness of the recession and how it has affected the working man. They were very passionate about their country, county and people....We finally left there and had a drink in the Thatch Bar, which was quiet by comparison. Taking one of the locals advice, we ate at The Snug, an Italian restaurant and all had very delicious meals.
